Stress wave induced damage and fracture in impacted glasses

چکیده
The conditions for crack nucleation under impact loading were investigated systematically for four glasses which differ in their chemical composition, hardness and material density. Edge-on impact experiments were carried out with blunt steel cylinders within the velocity range from 20 m/s to 1000 m/s. The propagation of shock waves, of primary and secondary cracks and crack systems and the growing of crack systems from nucleated centers were observed by means of a Cranz-Schardin camera in a shadow optical arrangement. Resum6 Les conditions pour la nucleation de fissures due a une charge d'impact ont Cte etudikes syst6matiquement pour quatre sortes de verre qui se distingnent par leur composition chimique, leur duretc? et leur densite du matkriau. Mechanics of 2D Elastic Stress Waves Propagation Impacted by Concentrated Point Source Disturbance in Composite Material Bars
Green’s function, an analytical approach in inhomogeneous linear differential equations, is the impulse response, which is applied for deriving the wave equation solution in composite materials mediums. This paper investigates the study of SH wave’s transmission influenced by concentrated point source disturbance in piezomagnetic material resting over heterogeneous half-space. Green function ap...
متن کاملVickers Indentation Cracking of Ion-Exchanged Glasses: Quasi-Static vs. Dynamic Contact
The indentation deformation and cracking responses of ion-exchanged glasses were measured using quasi-static and dynamic loading cycles. Two glass types were compared, a normal glass that deforms to a large extent by a shearing mechanism and a damage-resistant glass that comparatively deforms with less shear and more densification. The quasi-static indentation cracking threshold for median/radi...
متن کاملDYNAMIC TENSILE - FAILURE - INDUCED VELOCITY DEFICITS IN ROCK Allan
&bstracL Planar impact experiments were employed to induce dynamic tensile failure in Bedford limestone. Rock discs were impacted with aluminum and polymethyl methacralate (PMMA) flyer plates at velocities of 10 to 25 m/s. Tensile stress magnitudes and duration were chosen so as to induce a range of microcrack growth insufficient to cause complete spalling of the samples. Ultrasonic Pand S-wave...
متن کاملThe shear band controlled deformation in metallic glass: a perspective from fracture.
Different from the homogenous deformation in conventional crystalline alloys, metallic glasses and other work-softening materials deform discontinuously by localized plastic strain in shear bands. Here by three-point bending test on a typical ductile Pd-Cu-Si metallic glass, we found that the plastic deformed region during fracture didn't follow the yielding stress distribution as the conventio...
متن کاملP-65: Nitrosative Stress, Lipid and Carbonyl Groups Peroxidations in Long Time-Induced Varicocele; Association with Sperms DNA Damage in Rats
Background: The pathophysiology of the varicocele has received considerable study, both in humans and in animal models. The sperm DNA damage and related oxidative stress have been identified as significant cause of male infertility. Present study was designed to evaluate the testicular nitric oxide (NO) generation, lipid and carbonyl groups (CGs) peroxidation and to analyze related sperm DNA da...
